(In the past article, we knew about the importance of learning to subordinate your individual goals to the organisational goals. Today, we will see the importance of respecting your profession.)
Respect your profession
In a workshop, an advocate asked me what to do for success as he is not getting good results despite doing hard work.
My usual advice in such situation is to do a deep introspection about what you are giving to your profession. Are you simply specialising in proving the wrong thing as right or proving the right thing as wrong; or you are a fighter for justice and support only right, come what may. What is your identity in your own eyes? What are your values? Do you feel pride in pursuing your profession? Are you up-to-date with latest trends in your profession? Look, whether you are simply after earning money by hook or crook?
You will get the answers from inside.
Look at the successful peers of your profession and you will find that they have succeeded as they added value and pride to their profession. See what successful peers are doing, which you are not doing. This is applicable to all professions, be it advocate or doctors or engineers or architects or any type of service providers. Profession is larger than individual. Remember, if you strive to take your profession to new heights, your profession will take you to such heights, which are beyond imagination for you right now.

You should always remember that your earning capacity is your most important financial asset and if you work upon improving your earning skills, your value to your organisation or your profession will increase and your earning will automatically increase. With increase in earnings, your expenditure level and your savings both will increase. Extra expenditure will bring your enjoyment in the present and extra savings will bring you extra security and mental peace for the future.
Learn from the successful people
If in your job or profession, somebody is growing at a faster pace than yours, identify what he is doing, which you are not doing. Start following the success principle. Though he may be your competitor but in the matter of learning, you learn best from your competitors. Till now, we used to think that the person who is growing is a flatterer, which was a negative way of looking at the things. Now we will identify, what skill or attitude you need to develop, which he already possesses. I don’t say that you should also become a flatterer, but if he is going ahead due to good habits, attitude or behavior, you should also follow the course.
(From the next article, we will see how to enhance productivity. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
